Local Love Rallys

This week let’s practice affection! 

Spend time with an elderly neighbor or family member
Play with your pet
Give someone flowers
Make someone a card
Praise something your child created
Offer to do something for someone
Hold someone’s hand

Local LoveRallys are in addition to our monthly Rally Mission.  While our monthly Rally Mission is a writing campaign geared toward supporting a specific person or cause, our Local LoveRallys keep the love going all month long… within your own hometown!  Each month we’ll focus on simple ways to make a difference in your community.  These are suggestions to help get your creative juices flowing!

This month is all about expressing gratitude.  It really only takes a couple seconds and it spreads positive energy!

Make it a point this month to smile and say thank you wherever you go, whether it’s the bank, the gas station, the grocery store, the doctors office, and everywhere!  When you are on the phone, say thank you!  It feels wonderful to express gratitude and it feels wonderful to receive gratitude!  Giving appreciation is like giving a teeny tiny gift that explodes out of the little package when opened.

My gosh, can you believe September is already upon us?   In September we’ll be focusing on “Strangers”.   You never know when a stranger will become a friend.   Sometimes a stranger might have something to say that strikes you, or makes an impact on the way you view things.   If we are observant we can learn a lot from people we don’t know.  On the flip side, there are little things that we can bring to a stranger.  We can leave behind a smile on a bad day or extend a simple courtesy when their day is hectic.

• Give a compliment to a stranger.
• Let someone go ahead of you in line.
• Thank someone who let you in front of them while in traffic (wave to them).
• Strike up a conversation in a waiting room.
• Buy a cup of coffee or a sweet treat for the person behind you in line.
• Help someone with their groceries or hold the door for them.
• Give up your seat on the bus.
• Stick up for someone.
